Permalink The Answer to the lack of the FireWire 400 port in the new MacBook
Eric S Hello all I am glad to be the first one giving the answer to the over talked question WTF (Where's The FireWire) in the new MacBook well today I got to meet Jayson from Apple Canada at my work and I did ask him this question. Why is there no FireWire 400 Port in the new MacBook? now his answer was. Well what we found was that a lot of prosumers (Mainly video editiors) were thinking that the MacBook just did not have the same specs but thought it would run Pro software (Final Cut Studio 2, Logic Studio etc...) and they were complaining to Apple that these computers are stupid and then Apple says that you are trying to run software on computers that don't support it so they took out the FireWire port because they find that more and more video cameras are becoming USB based (Which I Think is the opposite) so it says to the Pros you are going to need a MBP to support your pro video cameras. So there you go there is your Answer but what I am still questioning is why they took the FireWire 400 port out of the MBP which they are trying to push the fact to get the MBP because it has FireWire when you have to buy an adapter to get the FireWire 400 port
so there ya go the explanation for the FireWire question

REALLY stupid answer on Apple's part, you know apple.....firewire does more then support video cameras yah know! What about those thousands of FireWire Hard Drives that people have been backing up on?
I have a MacBook and i run Logic Pro 8 so well. and I use an external firewire 400 recording interface! it works very well for me, and I don't have the cash to get a MBP. so, the new MacBook wont be good for me....
Apple went nuts on this one!
Mac-savvy as you are, I was wondering if you could answer this question for me: Will the new LED Cinema Display be able to connect to a Penryn-based Macbook Pro?
Cheers,
Sam.
But I think many Video Editors were doing this the most with Final Cut Studio 2 Yes I know Final Cut Express 4 runs on the MacBook but it does not have all the apps like Motion, Color, Soundtrack etc...
Hey there Sam I am not Jon (Rettinger) and I am unsure on this yet but I think it can not but I think that Apple will try to be able to get it connected

I also do know the audio professionals need the FireWire 400 port at my work www.icnme.com we have a Motu 8Pre which is for professional recording because it has the rack mounts for the racks that Pro audio producers use and it is FireWire (400) based so it is a real drawback but at our supplyers warehouse he has some previous gen MBPs I Bought one to get the previous gen MBP with the 400 port while I still can because I do not want a new one where I can lose the adapter/cable but they are cheap (1,699)
